Canberra is a popular destination for school groups for obvious reasons. It is a good idea to start to choose dates 1-2 years in advance of your preferred travel dates to assure you your top preferences in accommodation and itinerary. Think about how long the students and families would want the trip to be – Does you school have a limit to how many days away from school is appropriate? Do you wish to go in Winter to make use of the close proximity to the snow fields? Or would you prefer to go when it’s a little warmer?

Canberra is bursting with fun and educational activities. Some of which are mandatory for the Civics PACER Scheme rebate and learning in-line with the curriculum. Others are educational while others are just plain fun. Have a look through the Canberra activities and attraction page on our website and start to get some ideas! We can guide you through some of the most popular attractions and suggest some that would suit your schools needs and what focus you have for your excursion.

It’s also tempting to cram a lot into your itinerary. We assist you to find a balance – keeping the students busy is important but we don’t want to exhaust them and wear them out! Relaxed but fun is the key! Develop a list of attractions in priority order (curriculum linked) so we have a better understanding of your tour’s needs while we plan your itinerary.

We have risk assessments for attractions, accommodation and transport to share with you and your school.

You will not know exact numbers at this stage; however, a ballpark figure will be required to assist in quoting. Free of charge teachers are allocated in a 10 students to 1 teacher ratio.

A more accurate number of students can be estimated once communication and expression of interest has been requested. Ideas for promoting the Canberra trip include a distribution letter to parents, mentions in school newsletters, class presentations from former year level that may have just returned from a Canberra tour, school portal.

If travelling from Queensland or further afield a flight component is usually included. However, in some cases you may wish to coach the entire trip. We will discuss the options with you and can include costs of flying into different cities. For example, you may wish to fly into Sydney rather than directly to Canberra.

We will then discuss with you the best date to come to your school to present the Canberra School Trip to your parents. Thorough communication with you parents of this information evening will ensure more attending parents. Newsletter notices, letter distribution is again recommended.

Make sure your principal approves your excursion and put the dates straight into your school calendar. Interested parents will then solidify their child’s participation interest with a small deposit to the school. Once we have received the initial group deposit, we will then proceed to finalise bookings and confirm your Canberra tour itinerary – including accommodation and flights (where required)
